Hello and welcome to Room 6's blog for term 3!

This term we have some exciting things planned - here's what we are all looking forward to:

  • Technology based topic on how we can create change within our school
  • How to create a still image
  • How to create an eBook
  • How to make a moving image
  • Tri-nations - Room 6 is in charge of Football with help from Ryan's amazing mum and the talented Martin!
  • Choir festival and Polyfest
  • Student led conferences (Week 4)
  • Three brand new iPad's to explore and play with
 And much more.....

On the first day back from the holidays we had an interesting adventure where Room 6's classroom transformed into an art gallery.  There were a series of different photos (or still images) on display for the children to critique.  A special guest (the "photographer") Tony Bishop then came in and spoke to the class about the photos.  The children asked him lots of questions and learned a lot from this local quirky artist!  Here are some photos from the afternoon:

Sid and Chaylem writing down what they liked about this photo

Erica and Joash discussing what they didn't like about this photo (something was definitely wrong!)

Devyn, Jorja and MacKenze about to move onto the next photo to critique

Shevin, Zach and Rosemarie discussing features of the photo

Xavier and Tammy looking closely at the beach shot (I wonder what they were thinking?)

Here is Tony Bishop talking about the first two photos

Here Tony was discussing the use of negative space and background features.  We also spent a long time discussing what the girl might have been thinking about!

Here is Mr Bishop explaining what the message in the picture

Room 6 successfully have a collection of notes and ideas from Tony's visit. We hope he will come again!

The next day Luca wrote a character description about Tony our artist:

Tony Bishop looks like he belongs in a museum.  He is about thirty years old and spends his days taking cool photos and doing housework.  He has long salt’n’peppery rough hair and he’s got sparkling blue eyes like diamonds.  Also Tony has big huge ears as big as elephant ears WOW!
Mr. Bishop has a long nose and strong white teeth, also a smiley face with a short neck with a pink scarf.  I can tell he likes scarves.  Tony Bishop has long fingers like salad fingers.  He is a photo person.  He likes photos.  Last thing – he has long legs.  And that is what Tony Bishop looks like.

By Luca Ryder

Miss Monteath really liked the way Luca used creative description to describe Tony Bishop and felt that Luca really captured his character in his writing.

Luca says: He gets his awesome describing words from movies, reading books and talking to people.

HOMEWORK:

Keeping with the theme of the term, Room 6 has started to send Miss Monteath their homework via email.  This has proved to be very successful and useful and some great submissions so far!  Here are some examples of technology submitted homework:

The sound of the week is SW this week:

Caleb McCall made a poster about swag

Hoani dressed up showing SWAG!

Raeffe sent in some information about swords:

SWORDS
Swords were used till the 17th century bc that's too long ago.
The first swords that were made were in China where the most stickler swords were made.
Stickler swords are a basic regular swords that you sometimes see in pirate games.
It looks like a steal stick but is so sharp that it could rip right trough your curtain in a second.
Stickler swords are thin sharp battle swords that were almost used every were in China.
A man called tinggo a chines sword maker that came up with a stickler sword.
It's called the stickler sword becuse it's like a steel stick.

Next week we are learning about the sound 'tw' and about the suffixes 'er', 'en' and 'est'. I wonder what the class will come up with for their homework?!

Here is a link to an electronic form of Power Point - it's really cool and interactive:

We have been doing chemistry experiments about how and why things change.
The first thing we did in class was states of matter about liquids, gas and solids.

Here are some videos we have watched in class about states of matter:
