NZ Money Exploration and NZ Heros

Today we have learnt that:

  • On the NZ five dollar note is Sir Edmond Hillary.  Beside is an image of Mt Cook and if you look really closely to the left of the word five, you will find a very small Massey Ferguson tractor.

  • On the NZ ten dollar note is Kate Sheppard.  Beside her is an image of three white camillias which is a universal symbol for suffragettes in NZ

  • On the NZ twenty dollar note is Queen Elizabeth the II.  Beside her is an image of the Beehive in Wellington.

  • On the NZ fifty dollar note is Sir Apirana Ngata.  Beside him is an image of a Maori Meeting House.

  • On the NZ one hundred dollar note is The Lord Rutherford of Nelson.  Beside him is an image of the nobel prize.  He is also known the "Father of the atom".

Can you find the tractor?

ANZAC The Dawn Parade

Here is Nikita's letter to the parents of IMS telling them about The Dawn Parade:

1st of May, 2015

Dear IMS parents,

Have you heard about the dawn parade? Well I’m going to tell you why you need to go.  Before I tell you why, I need to tell you where.  The dawn parade is on the 25th of April 7:00am in the morning.  If you have a poppy pin it on your shirt and this place is across the road from McDonalds.  Bring a jacket.
We need to go because we need to remember the people who died for us to live. Now all we can do is go to the dawn parade and show our support. We go to the dawn parade because every family has someone who went to war even if you don’t know them, your mums will.   They were brave, they showed courage in their eyes and fought for our freedom.  Now it’s your turn to be brave and go to the dawn parade.

Yours sincerely, Nikita.
